KER-POW

What would a comic book punch look like in 3D?  This series of relief sculptures shows my ideas for that question.

My KER-POW series started when I was messing around w/some clay. For no particular reason, I was trying to see how thin and evenly I could roll out a small lump of clay. I got it about the size of a medium pizza (BLAM!), and then I sort of picked it up, spun it, and caught it on my fist, SHWING! It drooped down and around my fist (SLURP!), so I molded it to the closed hand, (ZIP!) and then took the clay off and had a sort of cast of my fist, YOWSER! The idea to put it onto a board/frame as a relief sculpture popped right into my head, BOOM! The idea of it looking like it’s breaking through instantly followed, BAZINGA!
They are relief sculptures, sticking out about four to six inches from the wall. They are all made w/a ceramic fist and a variety of other materials. Some are not kid friendly- very sharp!
